Congrats to Nick Lamm for exceeding his fundraising goal to create the Lammily doll by over 400%. What’s everyone’s take on this project to create a doll with standard human body proportions?
What if Fashion Dolls Were Made Using Standard Human Body Proportions?
This is the question Nick Lamm found himself asking, and which has led him to create a doll of just that sort.
Everyone, meet Lammily.
Lammily is a Fashion Doll modeled after the proportions of the average 19 year old woman, with fully articulated wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles.
She is fun, fit, stylish, and completely ready for production!
Lamm has created a highly detailed and very accurate 3D digital prototype of Lammily, which the manufacturer will use to make the physical doll.
He’s been consulting with Robert Rambeau, the former Vice President of Manufacturing at Mattel (creator and distributor of Barbie), who has offered his experience and expertise in selecting a highly qualified manufacturer.
In order to make Lammily a reality, Lamm needs help raising money to cover the costs of tooling and molding, and to meet the manufacturer’s minimum order quantity.
He’s started a CrowdtiltOpen Campaign to raise the money, but it’s only reached a third of the goal, and there’s only thirty days left! (As of March 5th).
I think it’s clear how amazing it would be to see Lammily on toy store shelves and in the hands of the young children growing up today. In Lamm’s words, “Rather than waiting for toy companies to change their designs, let’s change them ourselves by creating a doll that promotes realistic beauty standards.”
I’ve seen this community accomplish some amazing things - raising money for orphanages, donating food to homeless people, spreading awareness of crisis hotlines, and working hard to generally make the world just a little bit better. I honestly believe that we could almost single-handedly put Lammily on the shelves. Oh, and did I mention that Lamm has plans to create dolls of different ethnic backgrounds and body types too? I’m serious, guys, this is so close to being a reality. If we can back Lamm enough here to make and distribute this first model of Lammily, we’ll be part of paving the way towards a whole new model of children’s toys, and legitimately contribute to tearing down the existing model that causes so much degradation to the esteem of young girls everywhere.
So seriously, if you have the money, please donate what you can to get this product off the ground (also, your credit card won’t be charged unless the total goal is met). And if you can’t afford to right now, then please spread the word. Come on, guys, let’s make some change.
